One of the strange aspects in the last installment of Game of Thrones is that it is only six episodes long, shorter than 10 episodes of the first six episodes. What was originally planned for the polarizing season, George R.R. Martin said German Welsh publishing, even strange.
"David Benioff and Dan Weiss," HBO celebrities, "want to end the story with three movies after season 7," Martin told the publication in an interview, Translated by Reddit user mellycafe. "Game of Thrones should have ended in cinema. It was discussed seriously four to five years ago."
Martin explained that HBO brought kibosh into that idea, the reason that it was in the TV business – not film business. Even movies made by HBO like Deadwood: The movie, Martin noted, was made to be shown on TV, not in theaters.
Benioff actually talked about this possibility in 2012, Tell Entertainment Weekly during the filming of season 3, "we had a very generous budget from HBO, but we knew what was going to happen and in the end, it wasn't generous enough."
